By the innovation prize Aachen innovative developments of technology, craft, service and industry will be honoured, which are particular interesting for the further development of the economic location of town and district Aachen. It is for particular entrepreneurial and scientific performance. The innovative aspect can be the development of new technologies as well as internal measures to improve the environment protection and the power supply.

The company Hellweg Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG has been honoured for innovative developments in the range of CD/DVD-sprue recycling. CD and DVD sprues can be recycled "clean" by the grinder type MRS (Material Recycling System), with adherence of the requirements of a clean room, in a closed circle. The granulated material is of very high quality and can directly be fed again to the injection-moulding process. As a result of the high efficiency of the MRS it is possible to fit even Duoliner with only one recycling system. Savings in material up to 3,5 % are the basis of this project. An further important advantage of the MRS is the possibility to integrate this small cutting mill directly into the injection-moulding machine. This is worldwide unique as yet. As a result of the low weight of only 43 kg it is even possible to fit the MRS at movable units inside the injection-moulding machine.

To present the innovation prize 2002, also the marketing, as well as the possibilities of distribution, have been considered. The company Datarius Technologies GmbH, leading the world market in test- and quality equipment, has taken on the worldwide distribution and service for the optical data industry.
